Retrokidz with Big Daddy Kane!!

So the Retrokidz got to open for Big Daddy Kane at the final “Celebrate Brooklyn” concert and they were ALL OVER the stage. Between their own awesome performance, dancing to Ralph McDaniel’s DJ set, or being interviewed by BDK himself in the documentary, they totally stole the show!

Youth & Violence: Gregory (Beef) Jones on Hip Hop, UCLA

Hey we’re not all sex, drugs and rock & roll over here, we tend to drop a little knowledge from time to time. I was invited to talk to a rather large group of scholars, faculty and students at UCLA.

...THE BEST WEEK EVER!

We celebrated my latest birthday this past week with a party at Santo’s Party House with JUNIOR SANCHEZ, TEAM FACELIFT, JASMINE SOLANO, MR. MOVE (TITTY FULL OF BEER!!) and DJ SCHOOL BOY. TROUBLE ANDREW was supposed to perform but I don’t know what happened, it was probably my fault somehow, but I was blackout drunk by 8pm so who knows.

ALL POINTS WEST saturday

It must have been our lucky day, because All Points West decided to let all Friday ticket-holders come back again due to the rain. A little silly considering how much fun we had getting soaked, but OK, All Points West. We’ll take it. First stop…

KOOL KEITH - Dr. Octogon was in prime form, describing his adventures as gynecologist/horn dog. Who knew that combination could be so endearing?

ICE-T - Oh yeah, did I mention Ice-T was there? And we were front and center? We started the day off right.

MUD WRESTLING - What any responsible concert organizer would do with a mud pit, right? These girls were shameless—just how we like em!

ST. VINCENT - My favorite act of the day. One does not expect such a rocking sound to come out of such a little women with a lovely voice and a backing band of woodwinds. Plus she did a cover of I Dig A Pony! Mad props for that.

NEKO CASE - It was bit of a girl rock day, but that’s cool with me. If there’s one thing for certain, Neko can SING.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE - By the time we left Neko Case, the crowds had begun swarming for My Bloody Valentine. And they certainly got what they were asking for; My Bloody Valentine killed the audience with a wall of sound. Even so, there were still cries of “louder!!” to which the band responded, “It’s supposed to be quiet.” Oh, you’re funny.

Overall, it was a wonderfully epic 2 days of music and mud. Keep it up All Points West! I’ll see you next year!

ALL POINTS WEST friday

As the most appreciated intern in the world, I was able to finagle my way into All Points West this Friday. Despite torrential rainfall, we jammed, danced and ate our way to a great time. Some highlights include:

RA RA RIOT - Alexandra Lawn stole the show with her dance moves and electric cello playing.

YEAH YEAH YEAHS - Karen O is probably the most badass frontwoman ever. They did some really rocking tracks from their new album, It’s Blitz!, but what really brought the house down was their acoustic version of “Maps.” Absolutely magical.

JAY-Z - What an honor to see the man live. Starting out with a tribute to the Beastie Boys with NO SLEEP TIL BROOKLYN, he did some classic hits, as well as new tracks off his upcoming album, Blueprint 3, all with special guest, Memphis Bleek.

MSTRKRFT - After a long, wet day of incredible music, we decided to wind down with a dance party. Cuz that’s how we do.

ART - Managed to get some pictures of the art installations while chowing down and warming up in a tent. My photography leaves a bit to be desired, but you get the idea—super cool.
